Structure and use of disc brakes

The disc brake is a kind of commonly used brake, which plays an important role in the operation of the car and is a guarantee for the safe operation of the car. We know that if any object loses control during movement, it will bring unpredictable danger, so the role of the brake is very great.

Structure of disc brake:

Disc brakes are hydraulic and controlled by hydraulics. The main components are brake discs, sub-pumps, brake calipers, oil pipes, etc. The brake disc is made of alloy steel and fixed on the wheel, and rotates with the wheel. The sub-pump is fixed on the bottom plate of the brake. The two friction plates on the brake caliper are mounted on both sides of the brake disc. The disc brakes frictionally and acts as if it were holding the rotating disc with pliers, forcing it to stop.

The disc brake has fast heat dissipation, light weight, simple structure and convenient adjustment. The disc brakes used in many cars include flat brake discs, perforated brake discs, and scribe brake discs. Among them, the brake effect of the scribe brake discs and the ventilation and cooling capacity are relatively good.

The disc brake applies force along the direction of the brake disc, the brake shaft is not subject to bending moments, the radial size is small, and the braking performance is stable.

Use of disc brakes:

The rotating element in the disc brake friction pair is a metal disc that works on the end face and is called a brake disc. Its fixing elements have a variety of structural types, which can be roughly divided into two categories. One type is a brake pad composed of a friction pad with a small working area and a metal back plate, and each brake has 2 to 4 brake pads. These brake pads and their actuating devices are installed in a caliper-shaped bracket that spans both sides of the brake disc, collectively called a brake caliper. This kind of brake composed of brake disc and brake caliper is called caliper disc brake. The metal back plate and friction plate of another type of fixing element also have a disc shape, and the entire working surface of the brake disc can be in contact with the friction plate at the same time. Caliper disc brakes were previously used only as central brakes, but are increasingly used as wheel brakes by cars and trucks of all levels. Full disc brakes are used as wheel brakes by only a few vehicles, mainly heavy vehicles.
